University of Illinois Associate Professor Andrew Margenot and his team, in partnership with Practical Farmers of Iowa, will present findings from a 10-year tile drainage study covering nearly 1,000 acres. The data includes nitrate and phosphorus trends across two major watersheds.

Nutrient Stewardship Field Day: Cook County
Cook County Farm Bureau has partnered with Margenot to study the use of struvite as a slow-release phosphorus fertilizer. The multi-year project will test various application rates of struvite on high-value crops and monitor soil and water quality to measure nitrogen and phosphorus losses compared to traditional fertilizers.

Marshall County regenerative farmer Ethan Koehler is the newest participant in the “Bioreactor Partnership,” a collaborative effort launched in 2017 by IFB, Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA), U of I and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. This year’s field day will feature a hands-on demonstration as a bioreactor is installed on Koehler’s farm.

Nutrient Stewardship Field Day: Wayne County
The Wayne County Nutrient Loss Inhibitor Demonstration Plot, a joint effort between Wayne County Farm Bureau and Wabash Valley Service Company, will shift its focus in 2025 to studying nutrient use efficiency across all macronutrients. The project will now feature four variations of supplemental macronutrient applications over a baseline fertilizer, with multiple replications across the field.
